Vertigo Clinic

Vertigo is a false sense of motion, spinning, or feeling of imbalance. Sufferers often describe it as dizziness, imbalance, and light-headedness. It is a fact that 20-40% of people are affected by dizziness, and 2-3% of emergency visits to the hospital are due to dizziness.

Symptoms

  • Giddiness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Hearing loss in one or both ears
  • Tinnitus (ringing in your ears)
  • Headaches
  • A feeling of fullness in your ear

How to diagnose Vertigo?

At THANC hospital, we do the following tests:

What causes Vertigo?

  • The balance system comprises the inner ear’s vestibular organ, the associated nerves, and balance centers in the brain.
  • It is a complex system that helps the body maintain good balance and stability.
  • If the vestibular system is affected, you can experience vertigo.

Balance Assessment Testing

  • ENT doctors may recommend a balance assessment if you have symptoms of dizziness, vertigo or a feeling of imbalance.
  • The test checks how the balance system within your inner ear (vestibular organ) is working.
  • Balance assessment tests, like VNG, use equipment to monitor the eyes for normal and abnormal movements when the vestibular system is stimulated.

How to Prepare for Vestibular Testing

  • Discuss with the treating consultant regarding the use of anti-vertigo medications, as they may interfere with the evaluation/results of the tests.
  • Follow the recommended dietary guidelines before the test and avoid alcohol consumption.
  • Do not wear eye makeup; it is important to see all eye movements during the evaluation.
  • You may feel dizzy after the evaluation; it is advisable to have a family member or someone else drive you home after the testing is done.
